My Friend Rupert is an acoustic duo from Newcastle, NSW consisting of Ellen Macdonald and Matt Cross. Having formed in 2014, the pair combine their voices, accompanied by piano and acoustic guitar to create what has been described as a beautifully, captivating experience. They draw inspirations from folk artists including Glen Hansard and The Civil Wars, and combine that with modern influences such as Kate Miller-Heidke and Ben Folds. The duo have released a small library of music including their debut EP “Waiting” in 2019, and more recently “No We Won’t We Sing Horses”, which showcases their comedic flair. The song is a dedication to Australian musicians who have faced that dreaded request whilst performing. The cheeky lyrics, combined with a quirky pop rock arrangement is a pleasing contrast to the usual mellow tones produced by “My Friend Rupert”. Ellen and Matt have been performing together for the past five years and their stage presence demonstrates their strong friendship
