Jazzy titbits... funky beats... folk tales of near, far and in-between; Mykaela Jay’s music is the collision of layered harmonies, funky bass lines, danceable grooves and dreamy lyrical tales. From her home of Lismore, NSW, Mykaela Jay has played gigs of all size and shapes along the east coast of Australia, finding home in Melbourne for a time before travelling through South America, learning and sharing music through Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador. After her 'Little Lights’ Australian east coast tour in 2019 Mykaela Jay began the recording of her debut album, ‘Mother Dearest’; an exploration of the complexities of youth in the face of our chaotic and crisis-stricken world. Winner of the 2019 ‘Lismore young songwriters’ competition’ Mykaela has been a part of CRANKFEST, ROAR women’s festival, and a number of intimate and outrageous affairs throughout the Northern Rivers, Brisbane and Melbourne. A child of our time, Mykaela Jay combines story weaving lyrics, the folk guitar lines of her childhood and the light passion of jazz and RnB with the twang of the charango, banjo, ukulele and her silky, heart felt voice. Undefined, reimagined, outspoken, body moving and soul shaking; Mykaela brings together cultures, ideas and artists from near and far to present a raw image of the human experience.
