Lead singer of Sydney-based americana/bluegrass band Dear Orphans is recording his debut solo album. Featuring self-penned songs as well as co-writes with friends such as Katie Brianna, Megan Cooper, Karl Broadie and Lachlan Bryan the album follows themes of hardship, revenge, death, home, goodbyes and salvation. The album draws on the musicianship of Dear Orphans players as well as other Sydney-based bluegrass and old time instrumentalists for side B. Side A will feature a collection of Melbourne alt-country instrumentalists. Whereas side B is set in the past (hence the traditional instrumentation such as banjo, dobro, fiddle, etc), side A is set in the present and the instruments and arrangements will reflect this. The first song from side B is complete and available now as a free download from http://go.dearorphans.com/old-sydney-town.
