Nina Leo's musical dreams have dominated her thoughts since she was gifted an acoustic guitar at 12. Growing up in Australia's capital city Ngambri/Canberra, the four walls of her childhood bedroom hold every piece of her thoughts and aspirations. Self-raised on an endless string of classic rock icons; from Suzi Quatro to Stevie Nicks, Bon Jovi to Pink Floyd, Linda Ronstadt to The Eagles, and Tom Petty to Blondie, this set Nina Leo on her way to dreaming up the sound of the music she wanted to create. In 2019, she formed the local indie rock band ‘The Differs’. The short-lived trio burst onto the scene quickly making headlines with a repertoire of mainly Fleetwood Mac and Divinyls covers with a handful of originals. Wanting to discover more about her music tastes, unable to steer away from her indie folk musings and her love of Adrianne Lenker, Bon Iver, and Alice Phoebe Lou, and the need to find a way to meld her love for rock ‘n’ roll together, Nina Leo was truly born with the artist name rising from the lucky draw of placing her middle name and star sign together. With a growing list of inspirations and finding hidden messages in alternate guitar tunings while spending time going down the rabbit hole of old-school MTV music videos, the polar-opposite ‘Recover’ and ‘Break The Renegade’ were written and became the first two singles to be released from the anticipated independently Debut EP ‘Fake It’ in 2021. A local favourite amongst touring artists Nina grew her audience by supporting larger local and interstate bands such as Carla Geneve, Moaning Lisa, DUST, The Terrys and Bones and Jones, leading to her selection for funding by ArtsACT through the Arts Activities Grant Funding in 2023. This major support from the Canberra arts scene helped rewire the dedication and motivation for her musical aspirations to a higher level and fund the production of music recordings. Fast forward to 2024 and now calling Naarm/Melbourne home, Nina Leo is excited to be entering the next phase of her musical journey with the release of her first new music for 2024, showcasing her innermost thoughts on heartbreak and reclaiming power, ‘Blind Spot’. Recorded at Infidel Studios NSW, produced and mixed by Louis Montgomery and mastered by Tahlia-Rose Coleman, this new era defines the sound of Nina Leo and invites you to delve into her devoted world of female rock ‘n’ roll.
