Official Partners makes fast and weird punk music, usually with guitars, synths / casios and drum machines. You can call it 'egg punk', 'synth punk', or whatever you like really. Stephin Merritt from the Magnetic Fields has a line he likes to use in interviews about songwriting. It's usually something like: "I have no wish to express myself personally. I don't think that's necessary to enjoy the music." That idea has really influenced my songs. The words I write are strictly functional, conceptual and/or written as a character. I'm not trying to express my 'feelings'. I just wanna rawk, I guess. Official Partners' debut track 'Don't Tell Me' dropped in late May 2026. I got the title phrase from my son. When he was a bit younger he would say "Don't tell me!" pretty much any time my partner and I would tell him not to do something cheeky or dangerous. So all the time basically. That phrase percolated into this song sung from the perspective of a grown man with that mentality (it seems like there's plenty of those around, unfortunately). So it's essentially a scummy bloke having a toddler tantrum for 2 and a half minutes. Musically its a frantic ripper with a classic hardcore punk gear shift to half tempo midway through. Might be of interest to those who enjoy that aussie egg punk sound like Smarts, Alien Nose Job, Steroïd, Satanic Togas, Ghoulies and such. Also influenced by older stuff like Bad Brains, Devo, the Spits, Le Tigre, and Plasmatics. Official Partners is based in Boorloo / Perth, Whadjuk Noongar Boodja.
