One Island East - a 4pc band whose style combines jazzy reggae with soulful, almost latino, roots to create an acoustic island vibe likened to John Mayer and Ben Harper, with a Bob Marley and Gypsy Kings spin. The band’s multi-cultural diversity spans from Australia, Philippines, Samoa, Burma, Singapore and Zimbabwe, adding a unique twist to their stage presence. With their trademark use of the nylon string guitar and silky bass lines, audiences of most musical styles can appreciate the sounds of One Island East. Their new tracks “Fake Diamonds” and “Tell Me Friend” reveal a sensitive and sympathetic nature to somewhat dark experiences, yet the melodies and tones are prevailing and leave audiences grooving with a sense of optimism, creating good vibes in the roughest of bars. Front-man Ken Craigie says “we play music for the love of it, that’s why people come to see us and that’s the vibe we want to get back to”.
