For a subset of people born before 1990 music started with the words "This is off our first record. Most people don't own it…" followed by the plaintive strains of Kurt Cobain's acoustic (not electric) guitar. As such all music thereafter is filtered through a film of sadness, punk ethos and cellos. This is especially true of Melbourne singer/songwriter Luke Shields, to whom PACK BEARS is born. Starting out life on a Macbook balanced precariously atop a chest of draws in a bedroom in Carlton with the intent of paying worship to heros as far flung as Cobain, Springsteen, Sparklehorse and Godspeed You! Black Emperor (amongst others), PACK BEARS is an intensely personal, highly crafted yet charmingly rough-hewn project for those of us looking for something honest and sincere in what we listen to. Things have moved surprisingly quickly since the project started in July of 2010 with a select few live shows and endless writing and recording. The songs you hear on this here page are
