To try and fit ‘piss to EME’ into some kind of pigeon-hole is akin to getting a lump of cookie dough and making a cookie-cutter to fit it. These seminal ‘Indie Punk Poets’ stole their name from graffiti on the dunny wall above a ‘piss-trough’ at the BHP steel works in Newcastle NSW. Formed out of total boredom, way back in 1980 by ‘The Stane’, ‘Berko’ and drummer Bradley Thomas Snr, they were eventually joined by Haitch Raige to complete the line-up. Their music is in a genre (and a world for that matter) all of its own (indie punk poetry); a less-is-more eclectic aesthetic with a narrative of punk poetry, using twisted humour (quite dark at times too…), for understated comments on politics, relationships, social issues and suburban life experiences. Hits including ‘Chook in the Fridge’, ‘Plectrum’, Chilly Billy’ and ‘Pub Brat’ with crowd faves ‘I Hate You’, ‘Nappy Rash’ and ‘Geriatric Stomp’, are as comfy as thongs between ya toes in a bindi patch.
