Predictive Text is the collaboration of Adam Long and Michael Downs. Their sound has been likened to a mixture of Boards of Canada, I am Robot and Proud, Cornelius and Air, and fits the same genre of commercial, downbeat electronica. Predictive Text come from different musical backgrounds, enabling a hybrid sound of cute, intelligent electronica, mixed with memorable, hooky progressions. Most of the tracks convey a positive mood, although at times there is a darker, other-worldly element to their layered sound. The tracks are short for this style of music, averaging four minutes; this was the artist’s intention, to create a ‘pop’ approach to electronica, a style of music that is becoming popular and more accessible to the average listener. Using their combined experience, Predictive Text composed, played, recorded, produced, programmed and mixed all tracks on their album themselves. They collaborated with a vocalist for two tracks and sampled a Japanese tourist for another.
