Billy Joel has complained in interviews that the media and public pigeonhole him and his music at the expense of a larger potential fan-base. The ballideering piano man built an audience out of soft, piano-driven pop - and as soon as he departs from this sound he alienates his existing fans and is met with suspicion from the rest of the populace. If Billy Joel wanted to release a hard-out D'n'B LP, his fans wouldn't like it, and hard-out D'n'B fans wouldn't contemplate ever buying it. So brings about the existence of PTRK SWYZ. When I want to write pastiche-y, lo-fi synth-pop, or do pastiche-y, lo-fi synth-pop recordings of songs I've written in another vein, it falls under the PTRK SWYZ moniker. This may seem pedantic, self-indulgent and unnecessary, but I won't let the harsh lessons of Mr Joel be in vain. The first release under PTRK SWYZ, the GOTHIC DISCO EP is slowly nearing completion.
