Rob Aspinall is a Melbourne-based Alt R&B artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer blending R&B, neo-soul, jazz and hip hop into rich, emotionally resonant soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Jordan Rakei and Allen Stone, his sound is defined by lush instrumentation, complex progressions, and a refusal to play small when it comes to his arrangements. Originally from Canberra, Rob has performed alongside acts such as SAFIA, Lucy Sugerman and Koebi Faumui, with live appearances from The Bergy Bandroom to Gold Diggers in Los Angeles. His previous releases, including Dorilla and I Don’t Mind — the latter receiving airplay on aud'$ State of the Culture — laid the groundwork for a bold new chapter rooted in Melbourne’s vibrant scene. His latest single “Fingerprints” explores the disorientation of being shown affection that turns out not to be exclusive through a swirling, reflective alt-R&B track built around the lyric “I can see fingerprints in the corners of my mind” Written across two cities and finished during a period of personal transition, Fingerprints marks the new era of Rob’s sound, representing his desire to go 100% in everything, and to never walk in shoes too small. With a visually rich music video on the way and four more singles to follow this year, Rob is carving out a space that’s vivid, vulnerable and entirely his own.
