Ruby Soho (aka Ruby Martha Koomen) is a Dutch–Australian solo performing artist, florist and teacher. Five years after releasing Confessions From the Loony Bin — a stark, unflinching record about living with bipolar disorder, repeated hospitalisation and learning how to survive her own mind — Ruby returns this year with her second album, Infertile. The album traces the last five years of her life, shaped by fertility struggles and the loss of two pregnancies, told with restraint, clarity and emotional weight rather than sentimentality. Alongside her solo work, Ruby is a long-standing presence in Australia’s independent music scene. She plays guitar in punk band Bitch Diesel and pop-rock feminist group Modesty, and has previously performed in Frank, LOOBS and Bunny Monroe. Her music moves between alternative rock and stripped-back acoustic storytelling, grounded by lived experience and a refusal to look away from hard truths. Outside of music, Ruby teaches and is passionate about flowers. She currently lives in Woolgoolga on the Coffs Coast, NSW.
