Saprotroph, born in 2010 by Drummer Dylan Clarke and Guitarist Matt McLean, is a mixed metal band from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. A few months after formation the band recruited singer Matt Bailey. In the middle of 2011, current guitarist Michael Birch joined the band, followed by bassist Rick Murphy, in the late months of 2011, thus completing the band line up. In September 2011, the band walked into Redwood Studios in Ballarat and recorded a demo, consisting of 2 songs, "Close To Freedom" and a self titled song, "Saprotroph". In the early months of 2012, the band recorded another demo consisting of 4 other songs. After months of practises, with 7 songs written and a heavy 80's metal sound, Saprotroph walked into Karova Lounge in Ballarat and played 5 songs for their debut show, supporting two other local bands, Swerve and Standby Soldier. The band are yet to play more shows in Ballarat, so stay tuned
