Edit history

Sentience are a four piece Australian melodic death metal band from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. They first began writing music in 2006 when guitarist Jay Carrillo, drummer Scott Thorneycroft and guitaist/singer Jamie McLean who all shared very similar musical influences and interests came together to write and play the music they loved. After several attempts and trials at finding a full time bassist the band line up was finally completed in mid 2008 with the addition of Matthew Burton who also assumed the role of Sentience’s heavy vocalist. In their time together the multiple and varying influences of the different members of Sentience have given birth to a whole new style of heavy metal that seamlessly blends heavy and dirty death and black metal riffs with haunting acoustic melodies to create a dynamic, powerful and unique style that is new and fresh to the Australian music scene. Currently Sentience have finished the recording of their first full length EP “Apologue”
