Shambhala was formed in 2006 in Newcastle with Dean Holmes (guitar/vocals), who has spent the last 15 years creating his own original sound and songwriting style. Driving this band is American Allan Hofer who relocated to Newcastle from Seattle with 3 drum kits, 44 cymbals, and a desire to make music with Australian musicians. Allan and Dean were previously known as the Newcastle hard rock band Stonemason until Pete Murray decided to call his band the Stonemasons. The name Shambhala is basically a place that exists in the sixth dimension where we and our music reside. Allan and Dean recruited ex-Mischling bassist Daniel "Corby" Corbett. After a short song writing period we entered a local studio to record a 5-song demo and we plan to record a full length album in 2007. Shambhala recently began playing local pubs and clubs and hope to gain support slots for local and overseas acts.
