As soon as Shane picked up an electric guitar, he found a taste for the Blues, even if he didn't realise it at first. As he matured, he also discovered tastes in other Roots genres such as Bluegrass and Folk and even Vaudeville and British Music Hall influences. A chance encounter with a New Orleans band known as 'Yes Ma'am' inspired Shane to take a one man band approach to his music, utilizing every day items in ways they were never designed for, such as an old suitcase as a bass drum. His combination of homemade instruments and foot stomping rhythms frequently played on the footpaths of Brisbane earned him the nickname 'the One-Man Street Band'.
