For Simon music was a way to address the missing pieces of life - those thoughts and emotions, often repressed in every day reality. And a way to try and understand the world inside us and around us – the contradictory nature of human life. Like so many people growing up, music has been an inspiration, a friend in need and a source of hope and joy. Writing songs since he was 18 years old and now in his early fifties, Simon has had a long journey with music. He has recorded two albums ‘On the Road to Find Out’, and ‘The Flying Zuchinni Brothers’ (a collaboration with Andy Lowe). His latest EP release 'Prison Cell' released in April 2026, is an eclectic collection of songs that showcase his style across the genres of pop, rock, blues and country. Prison Cell explores the universal themes of love, life, human nature and ultimately the search for answers. Simon’s hope is that his music connects with his audience in a meaningful way. Originally from New Zealand, Simon has spent much of his adult life in Australia, and now calls Coonabarabran home. A seasoned performer he’s supported The Exponents (performing as The Flying Zuchinni Brothers), along with numerous residencies at the Seville Expo in Spain. He also headlined the Willoughby Beer Festival in Sydney, and at street festivals and community events across New Zealand. He also performs in The Bushchooks with his wife Christine. Musically his influences include Bob Dylan, Leondard Cohen, U2, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, The Eagles. Simon plans to perform across regional NSW and Australia in the coming months. @simon_mackintosh_music
