Small Town Incident’s debut is a demonstration of the power of the short -and definitely sharp-message. Former Golden Mean members Gordon Kovacs (guitar/vocals), Keith Hamlyn (bass/vocals) and Rohan Geddes (drums/vocals) drop their former outfit’s guitar explorations for pile-driven salvos. Packed in are Kovacs’ slick fret runs and plaintive vocals, and the bourbon-soaked bark Hamlyn has trademarked in Midget, with a constant heavy rhythm evoking a careering train, relentlessly hammering away to the end of the line. ‘Malcontent’ is out 5 October through Logjammin’ Records, and MGM Distribution.
