Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi is a detail focused ambient-folk songwriter, combining expansive evocative sound worlds with intimate storytelling. Her debut EP released on Ba Da Bing Records ‘Wildflowers’ explored a dark ambience with a mixture of folk and art pop sensibilities. Her latest project, her soon to be released debut album, co-produced with Randall Dunn, develops this foundational sound into a more confrontational space, through a combined practice of voice and cello, personal storytelling, intimate often abrasive and strange production techniques, a deliberately understated use of orchestration, hypnotic droning pulses and unsettling textures, transportive field recordings; in a minimalistic framework. Movement and space heavily influence the realisation of her work. Having collaborated across different artistic mediums she continually draws inspiration from arts practices outside of my own.
