Spanish Harlem is a New York neighbourhood where different cultures and grooves collide. Just like the place, this Adelaide band delivers a wonderful mix of styles and influences ranging from neo soul, hip hop, pop and latin. The group was originally formed as a cover band in 2012 by David Azzurro and Paaree “El Paz” Senguttuvan during their medical school days. Since then, Harlem has become known across Adelaide for covering the uncoverable, wowing crowds with their funk renditions of 90s hits and Samba remixes of R&B bangers. The single, “My Momma Told Me”, is the band’s exciting debut into the world of original Australian music. It combines the soulful vocals of Marilyn K with the creative genius and funky riffs of Harlem founding fathers, David and Paz and even features a cameo verse by David himself. The track was produced by Adelaide DJ crew, Lam Bros Disc Jockeying, and the music video was filmed on location at local Adelaide art gallery, Floating Goose Studios Inc.
