Spartacus League is an Atmospheric Noise-Rock band from Melbourne. Drawing major influence from bands such as The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Sonic Youth, they have a broad and dense sound, which is driven by eclecticism and an interest in experimentation. Explosions of howling guitars and convoluted drum patterns, are embellished with stentorian vocals, haunting cello and swirling synths. Formed originally with in July/August of 2007, the band started with a more standard brand of rock. They remained nameless for the majority of 2007, before settling on the name Spartacus League. In late January 2008 the bands sound progressed, moving towards a more noise-oriented, intricate style, with longer breaks of ambience. The loud and fast songs got louder and faster, and the soft songs got softer and much more expansive. Improvisation became a part of the bands newer songs, as the range of effects used grew. These days Spartacus League are playing gigs around
