Recently listening to a slightly bizarre combination of Xzibit, Hoagy Carmichael, Pink and Tom Waits, Steve Smart has just launched his first full length album, Aint That A Kick In The Head – original motion picture soundtrack. The album is a fusion of spoken-word, blues guitar, hip-hop, electro and pure weirdness. 53 minutes of spoken-word you can dance to. Over the last nine years or so Steve has stormed his words across Melbourne, Ballarat, Sydney, Perth, Newcastle, Adelaide and Brisbane, with dates in Belfast, Montreal and Chicago confirmed for the new-year. His work has been described variously as blunt, cynical, funny, angry, deadpan, surprising, quirky, ranting and unlike anyone else on the scene. He was also once described as Australia’s Allen Ginsberg, which he took with a smile and a grain of salt. In his own words ‘the words are a reflection of my headspace at the time of writing; it comes when it comes, how it comes and if I happen to be a little cranky that day . . . ’.
