Fashions come and go in cycles. At the moment hardcore is experiencing an ever growing fan base. Hardcore was popular in the eighties and due to the majority of music trendsetters in their mid twenties growing up in the eighties, there has been a resurgence of eighties popular culture (think tight black jeans and mullets). Most notably for the punk scene this has meant the rise of hardcore as a popular underground music genre. Inevitably hardcore will give way to new (or old) styles of music. Due to the cyclical nature of music trends the next trend forecast will most likely be Grunge music, albeit with a twist as we saw with metal core/hardcore so we get maybe indie rock. The important thing here is to remember that for a brief period of time after grunge was declared as dead as a junky in a greenhouse, there was an extremely popular genre of music known as skatepunk. Skatepunk only lasted a few years of true brilliance before it made way for emo with the Ataris and similar bands
