sugarwife are a six-piece “sun and thunder indie rock” (RTRFM) band from Boorloo/Perth crafting songs that balance shimmering guitars with raw emotional honesty. Drawing from the dreamlike textures of Slowdive, the lyrical vulnerability of Jeff Buckley and Bright Eyes, and the driving energy of Fontaines D.C. and The Go-Betweens, the band's music sits somewhere between indie rock, shoegaze, dream pop and Australiana. Since forming in 2017, sugarwife have quietly built a reputation for thoughtful songwriting and immersive live performances, releasing their debut album Ablations in 2022 before spending the following years writing and completing their sophomore record. Their latest single, Getting Closer, marks the beginning of a new era, pairing hopeful melodies with candid reflections on burnout, ambition, and finding optimism in uncertain times.
