“I like chance meetings - life is full of them. Every day, without realising it, I pass people whom I should know.” - Academy Award nominated director and screenwriter Krzysztof Kieślowski. When bassist Benjamin Batty (Creations Herald) took a chance by posting a social media advert looking to start a “metal” band noting influences such as The Dillinger Escape Plan and Mastodon, the response was not one he was expecting. Matter-of-factly, this became the beginnings of a collaboration of inspirations, enlightenment, musical growth and fun - what arose from a hopeful Facebook post, was four friends who created by “chance” the metallic hardcore punk outfit Swordfishtrombone. A somewhat similar story to heavy metal royalty Metallica, who came into existence through a post in The Recycler magazine by drummer Lars Ulrich in 1981; the interest and innovation was instantly apparent from the advert.
