UK born producer Ally McMahon aka Taipa’s single release, “Whole Just As I Am” is the newest output of a uniquely studgey, lo-fi, jazzy hip-hop sound from the now Sydney based musician. “Whole Just As I Am” uses particular and unusual samples to create a conceptual piece of audio art that aims to create an emotional yet coherent story of love, heartbreak, and loss. Composed nocturnally with just headphones and a laptop, “WJAIA” is the result of a cathartic and therapeutic process to identify the breakdown of a relationship with McMahon’s partner at the time. Incorporating a range of influences from Dilla inspired soul grooves, to using indie and even math rock as a point of inspiration, this amalgamation of sounds equipped with fitting film quotes come together to create a piece of art that revolves itself around the feelings of sadness and confusion normally experienced when going through a break up.
