The Admired is Bianca Davino and Max Jacobson. They’re an emo band. Their debut EP was recorded in the same Enmore bedroom where Max worked his remote 9–5. To create a more professional studio environment, they stuck foam to the walls so Bianca could sing at 11pm without disturbing the neighbours. The room also features a carefully curated selection of early-2000s magazines and DVDs as a 3D moodboard. From this environment, their self-titled EP was created, and they are ready to share the first single “Dancefloor”. Their debut single, “Dream Pop Blues,” released in December, is a sincere look at how we can grow from bouts of loneliness. The track, which premiered on triple j Unearthed’s TOPS, combines the sentimental and powerful hooks of emo heroes Jimmy Eat World with the indie rock sensibilities of Tigers Jaw and Death Cab For Cutie. It also received Apple Music playlisting across Good Times, The New Rock & Negative Space, as well as extensive community playlist support. You may recognise these two as the core members of Grenade Jumper, who were mainstays in the Australian pop punk scene. Grenade Jumper toured nationally alongside the likes of Yours Truly, RedHook, Between You & Me, Bakers Eddy and many more, as well as collaborating with Trophy Eyes (on ‘Did You Imagine’) and Dear Seattle (on ‘Fluorescent’). These collaborations received rotation on triple j and features across Spotify and Apple Music, cementing the band’s presence in the scene. Grenade Jumper also performed at Unify Gathering, headlined national tours, and sold out multiple hometown shows. While The Admired’s songs come from a lifetime of experiences, their band is just getting started. This year, they opened for Origami Angel, and did a headlined Sydneymusicdotnet’s Cupholder event in May- further establishing themselves as an exciting new force in Australia’s alternative music scene. The EP will be coming out on their label Nowhere. Their ethos, informed by legendary entities Kill Rock Stars and Dischord, is to build community – a philosophy deeply rooted in their rich history in the Sydney scene.
