The Ages aim is to play unmanufactured, colourful, timeless music. The band was formed by musician & songwriter Astro, so named because the funk band he played in as a teen thought he was a freak from outer space. Astro is a trumpet player & singer who has recorded on albums by Bertie Blackmann, Sally Seltman (New Buffalo), Husky, The Banging Rackettes, Blue King Brown, TZU, Flap!, The Red Eyes, Gypsy Brown, Melodics & Brazil's 'Dois Em Um'. The other musicians from The Ages also play very diverse music around Melbourne, such as Jazz, Indie Rock, Reggae, Electronic & African styles. These diverse influences have all somehow melted into Astro's songwriting, which has been refined over many years, and which aims straight for the soul. Not a band to just recite their material, at live shows the songs are often opened up and can lead elsewhere, and sometimes arrive at moments of unrehearsed bliss. The Ages have almost finished their debut album due late in 2013. Stay tuned.
