The Axolotls are a friendly funk/soul band from the vibrant music scene of Newcastle/Mulubinba. This group of mellifluous mole salamanders is known for their unforgettable melodies, tight rhythm section, and retro sound, inspired by the funk and soul music of the ’70s. The group’s upcoming single, Just a Little More Time, was written at a beautiful kiwifruit farm on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Bandleader Ella Day and producer/bassist Matt Druce were working on new material when they decided to play a game of musical ping pong — writing a tune by taking turns picking one chord at a time. This silly exercise accidentally laid the foundation for what would become a wonderfully sweet and fun song about missing the person you love. Over the next year and a half, the duo worked together with the rest of The Axolotls to produce Just a Little More Time, along with another song, Marapana Nights, named after the kiwifruit farm, Marapana. These two songs will be released as The Double on October 8, 2026.
