The Bedlam In Belgium (formerly Rabble Rabble) story begins wayback with songwriter Mat Roberts, born in Sydney into a musical family. After finding out his natural talent as a singer at a young age, he joined his school choir, whilst also learning the piano, after being influenced by the multitude of classical music forced upon him at school. His musical influences didn’t stop there as his family moved between Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong, (where Mat spent his early teenage years), before finally returning back to Sydney and his same school. It is here where he became mates with Steve, a passionate bass player, who’s love for new and eccentric sounds, influenced Mat to push his traditional boundaries, as a result creating a sound that was both catchy and interesting. Mat and Steve’s mutual but distant acquaintance, Isaac, hosted a party one night in early 2005. Isaac is a very entertaining character, both behind the guitar and amongst his mates. Inevitably the trio hit it off.
