The Cleanmen formed in Bondi's surf scene starting out as a garage band but quickly started gigging in the inner city pub scene supporting other emerging ska and reggae bands. The bands name is derived from the reggae tune 'The Cleanmen' by British punk band The Members written about the not so clean English Politicians of the 80's .The lads affinity with ska music began in their teens when they would hit the Nite Klubs and skank until the wee hours. The demo tracks were recorded live on a 2 track tape deck in a crowded bedroom in Bondi. The voice of legendary Triple J announcer George Wayne appears at the end of the instrumental track 'Tara the Creature', based on a Rocky Erickson classic "Creature with the Atom Brain". The recent 30th Anniversary Tour of Oz by The Specials has now reignited the band who are set to take on the World once again! Dig it up!
