The ExIsles are three musicians from the wild Island State of Tasmania, now living in self-imposed exile thousands of miles apart in Melbourne, Byron Bay and Boise, Idaho. Mike McDougall, Nick Larkins and Michael Turner are three songwriters who have been friends since high school. They’ve crafted their lo-fi songs over the etherwaves, in the electronical slipstream, like a wah-wah pedal picking up ghost radio. The three are all former members of legendary Tasmanian Indie band Wild Pumpkins At Midnight, who relocated to Amsterdam and toured the world in the 90s. The ExIsles write Tasmanian cowboy songs of loss, regret, love, beauty, wonder and strange forgotten tales from the dark history of their island home. Songs that only exiles could write. They’ve glued them together with archival radio ads from Tasmania in the 1960s and 70s, as a cultural watermark from the distant past. Like the Tasmanian Tiger that symbolises their lost homeland The ExIsles may only exist in fading memories of feral kids who explored the deep forests at the end of the world.
