After playing in duos and rock bands for several years, Cam and Ali Gibbs formed The Firedrakes in 2010. A chance introduction to Loreena McKennitt's music in the early 2000s led the duo to swap their electric guitars for an oud, Irish bouzouki, lyra, darbukas and frame drums. In 2014 The Firedrakes released their politically inspired folk album "The Journey from Sapien Arts".
