Since 1996, Adam Hardcastle has been exploring a genre of music he terms 'organica'. It is the antithesis of MIDI. 'Organica' is highly produced music that is not electronically contrived; music that embraces digital editing but not the synthesisers, sequencers and samples that often go with it. All sounds and instruments are mic captured, no DIs. No click tracks, so the rhythm is free to wander. Field recordings often feature - physically capturing sounds is a large part of the process. Guerrilla recordings are particularly fun... like sneaking a harmonica into the Sistine Chapel and recording a riff before anyone can stop you... just to get that acoustic! Aural experiences are becoming subtler, more varied and small-niche driven as our listening devices become more capable and our global access to those niches grows. Organica embraces that, providing low-fi, organic soundscapes that try to speak to some aspect of the human condition for the few who dig that kind of thing.
