The Holy Cow is the latest alias of Brisbane musician, composer, writer and theatre-maker Matt O'Neill. As The Holy Cow, O'Neill specialises in delivering absurd and creative remixes of artists like Edward Guglielmino and Tara Simmons and expansive, experimental original productions like debut release 'Friendly Mushroom'. Rather than a specific genre, The Holy Cow's work draws from the entire spectrum of dance music to create an iconoclastic and immediately identifiable sound. O'Neill's densely rhythmic, sample-heavy, psychedelic productions are equally indebted to funk, hip hop and glitch as they are to dubstep, grime and drum'n'bass. Interspersed among these expected genres, meanwhile, are leftfield elements of post-punk, avant-garde jazz and contemporary classical music. Previous to The Holy Cow, O'Neill headed up the experimental improvisation collective Citizen Loud. From 2008-2010, Citizen Loud performed at numerous events and festivals including 2009's 2High Festival, 4C
