Kites are an emo/hardcore band that formed in March 2012 after Michael Potter and Andrew Evans spontaneously jammed one day in a shed. On this day they wrote their first song 'Empty Carcass''. In September 2012 they released a 5track demo, recorded off one microphone in their friends living room. At this point they were just a two piece until they soon asked their friend Stephen McGrath to play bass for them. After writing bass to the demo, and jamming a lot they decided it was time to re-record the demo at a higher quality. It was released on the 10th of March 2013 and was received very well by the public, much to their surprise! Kites have many more songs written and a couple of releases planned for the not too distant future.

The Kites
Bio history
Formed through a mutual love for living and music in 2012. We are kites, no matter how high we fly above the ground we will always be bound to the Earth and the issues, sadness and happiness that comes with that. Kites was originally conceived by vocalist Andrew McDonald and producer / guitarist, Dale Shearsmith in the spring of 2006. Their efforts to put together a band earlier that year had not come to fruition. Pondering the reasons for the band's demise, they decided to pass the time by writing some songs and started recording demos at Dale's house. While Dale created 12 string jingly soundscapes inspired by the Byrds, Teenage Fanclub and Wilco, Andrew would lay down vocals that sit somewhere between the heartbreak of Elliot Smith and the sun drenched summer sounds of the Beach Boys. After a few months of sculpting their sound and armed with a number of strong demos, they decided to have another crack at putting together a band. Tim Stacey on drums and Rob Stephens on bass almost completed the picture until Miranda Pollard of New Rules for Boats added some much needed harmonies to the mix. Whilst currently putting finishing touches on their debut EP, Kites have dipped their toes into
Melbourne 5-piece that combines a strong folk/roots and jazz background with melodic original pop. The Kites feature Corinn Strating, Nicola Strating and Jo Schornikow, who between them sing and play flute, fiddle, guitar and keys, with Lawrie Folvig (bass) and Harry Shaw-Reynolds (drums). The Kites’ original tunes are elegant little explorations with intimate lyrics and sweet harmonies. Good for when you’re in love, not in love or somewhere in between. Corinn likes Barbeque Shapes. Nicola prefers corn chips with cream spinach dip, followed by a monaco bar. Jo is partial to honey on toast with a glass of milk. Lawrie likes pickled onions. Nicola would like to meet JTT. Corinn is hoping to contact Tom from Daria. Jo is waiting for Seth Green to return her calls. And Lawrie wants to be MacGyver.
