Two classical percussionists and a composer gathered a phalanx of instruments (borrowed, bought and stolen) and took them into a studio to record pop music. The aim was to create music with percussion at its core, where marimbas, vibraphones, glockenspiels and drums would take the lead in place of guitars and keyboards. The Long Summer's music combines complex rhythms, melodies, textures and hooks with simple glorious song structures. This is lushly orchestrated dance and indie pop which nods to rock, soul and world music.
