Based out of Perth WA, The Manic began as a poetry collaboration between two Albany friends, Owen Gust and Ricky Neil Jr., which quickly evolved into a band of six throughout 2021. The Manic hold on to some classic post-punk sensibilities, whilst creating a sound and style that resonates with a new generation. Elements of new wave, punk and groove are thrown in for good measure. Jangly guitars, heart-felt lyrics, washy-synths and driving basslines are used to create a melodic, danceable and heart-felt sound-scape. The Manic use their music as a medium to communicate their feelings and observations on life as a young adult during turbulent times.
