An amalgamation of UK progressive rock and Aussie garage punk, this young Meanjin (Brisbane) trio passionately combine mesmerising musicianship with incomparable stage presence. Vicious tones and guttural hooks are blended amongst meticulous polyrhythms and interludes, with vocal melodies which refuse to leave listeners’ brains as the cherry on top. Then, garnished with the charming chemistry between high school mates Cole Forfang Phan (vox, guitar), Kai Giovanni (bass, vox), Matthew Dark (drums), and new addition Ethan Dwyer (guitar), what you get is dynamic skill and relentless headbanging brought to any and every stage. Following their sold-out premiere headliner in 2021, The Melancholiac's onslaught of singles has warranted features from TheMusic, Australian Music Scene, and 4ZZZ, seeing them play with the likes of VOIID, Homebrand, and DZ Deathrays.
