The Merlin Bird are a Melbourne-based band that play a unique brand of original rock. Their debut EP Reason and Rhyme has been described by the press as “shivers-down-the-spine good” and “virtually a must have”, while their live shows have been lauded by industry professionals for their originality. They have recently appeared with Jethro Tull and Asia in Germany and appeared in London, as well as playing the usual complement of places that no-one has ever heard of. In order of height and presumed sanity, The Merlin Bird are: Dan Moloney (drums, percussion - things that make interesting noises when hit), and Geoff Dawes (vocals, keyboards, guitar - things that make interesting noises when played through amplifiers). Musically, the band describe themselves as being like Pink Floyd meeting a bad-tempered Enya in an Irish pub, as sung by classically trained singers who have somehow ended up in a rock band that listens to Radiohead.
