The Mirror Phase is the latest music project of Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist, Timotej Izák Mohánov. He was a collaborator on Miami Horror’s 2017 record The Shapes. His debut EP, Half Measures in Love, was released independently in 2018. The EP has been described as an unpretentious but ambitious (given its bedroom production) fusion of sophistopop, new-wave and alternative pop. Hearkening to his Yugoslav heritage, the EP also contains distinct and brooding ex-Yugo pop/rock overtones, with one of Mohánov’s biggest influences being Serbian band Ekatarina Velika. Other acts he draws inspiration from include Talking Heads, Scritti Politti, New Order and the experimental pop scene of the 80s.
