The Muggy River Ramblers are a folk band made up of Chris Stockwell and Harrison Knight, two singer-songwriters based in Brisbane. They have recently finished recording their debut EP, which will be released in early 2015. There are 6 tracks on the EP, written by both Harrison and Chris. The songs are stories about places, people and love. They are composed mainly of acoustic guitars and vocals with some band accompaniment. This approach gives the songs the opportunity to stand up on their own merit. One song, The Ballad of Otis Potter, is a story told in first person about Otis’ life of drinking, loneliness, wandering, prison, conscription, drug dealing, and eventually drinking again. “The lyrics are fairly relentless and the music kind of chugs along like an old steam train”, says Harrison, who penned the ballad. At five minutes long it doesn’t leave much out of this character’s tragic tale. Gone with the Wind, another song off the EP, is an ode to the late Brisbane music venue
