The Orphans formed early this year after a series of chance encounters. Part post-punk, part early indie rock, their musical ambiguities impart a sound that is hard to define, but easy to relate to. Heavily influenced by bands like The Smiths and Gang Of Four, guitarist Thomas Hammer's jagged guitar lines give the band punch, while Duncan Ross Keith -- both the keyboardist and vocalist -- lend their sound melodic direction. Edan O'Grady grounds the band with his catchy, riff-based bass playing. At their core, these three Melbourne boys are dedicated to their music and aim to take it as far as it will go.
