The Pleasure of Books formed in Adelaide, August 2007. A month later - and armed with only a handful of songs, they played their first ever gig supporting Melbourne band Ancient Free Gardeners at Ürtext Studios, Adelaide. Drawing upon influences such as The Go-Betweens, Grant Lee Buffalo, The Triffids and early REM, the band quickly gained kudos for their well crafted songs and passionate live performances. The band were able to win over audiences and venue bookers alike resulting in a highly successful month-long residency at the Grace Emily Hotel throughout May 2008. Other shows around Adelaide resulted in enough money to be generated to cover costs for some studio recording time. The band entered Broadcast Studio (Adelaide) for two days in late July 2008 and recorded four of their songs. The song presented here at Unearthed - The Finger - is a result of that session. *** NEWS FLASH *** The Pleasure of Books will be playing their final ever show on Fri May 1 2009. Details below:
