The Polar Opposites have been active since May 2009, when local bands Underwater Taxi and Serenity both split. Frustrated with a lack of direction in both bands, Hamish Will and Bob began jamming on a few songs, and the instant chemistry prompted the split of the former projects, and bringing in Cooper straightaway on bass completed the fresh, creative and energetic quartet. The band spent several months developing their sound and writing an array of different songs. With the HSC over the heads of Hamish and Cooper, gigs have been put on hold for a long time, which has allowed the band to get a better feel for each other and mature their sound. The Polar Opposites recently took part in the Mercury Bluescope band competition, and with only 2 gigs under their belt, they made it through the Heat and went on to win the final against 9 other fantastic bands, earning them a $5000 recording package and $5000 cash. They are now looking to play as many shows as possible.
