the ponds' songs are usually piano and horn driven but we use found objects from our local area too. All of our music is inspired by bodies of fresh water in the green triangle area on the SA/VIC border between Mount Gambier, Portland and Hamilton. We look for stuff to use in our music at places like the Glenelg River, Lake Bung Bung, Ewan's Ponds, Piccaninnie Ponds, the Blue Lake and along the local beaches where fresh water springs bubble up through the sand. For example you can hear flint rocks bing hit in 'Slow Time' to represent cave drips. Though many of these environments are under threat from human activity, chemicals, farming practices and the like, our music is inspired by the positive forces of these environments; rather than banging on about the negative aspects of the relationship between humans and nature, we prefer to listen to the environment and let it inspire us. Proceeds from gigs and record sales often go to local land management schemes.
