The Shrugs are your new favourite guitar heroes for the Sydney rental market. Grab a blender, throw in some indie rock, garage rock, power pop and a healthy dose of energy, hooks, fuzz and melodies and you've got The Shrugs. Four friends who released their debut album It's Not The World, It's You... in 2018, played a bunch of shows and ticked a high profile box by having their song 'Mr Never Wrong' appear in the first episode of the Warwick Thornton-directed show Firebite. The Shrugs cleverly refer to their sound as strumcore/riffgaze and it's an apt description. Their new single 'Shoebox' was written pre-pandemic and addresses the state of the Sydney rental and housing markets. The band members, Sophia, Jed, Lauren and Matt have all been part of the Sydney scene for number of years, with time spent in bands such as Imperial Broads, Belles Will Ring, Sister Jane, Slimey Things, Face Command, Hobo Bordeaux, La Tarantella, Firinn, Bvllvds and Forcefields.
