The Smocks are a lovely three-piece rock band from Adelaide. From humble beginnings in a Brighton shed, The Smocks have developed a reputation for frenetic live shows that could best be described as a visual and aural embodiment of a sweaty hug. The Smocks' latest single, 'A Stubbed Toe of the Heart', was written to soundtrack a dance scene in a John Hughes film with a woman called Molly Ringwald. It's got the synth-sensibilities of Future Islands, a devilish Alex Turner-inspired croon and the tongue-in-cheek attitude of a band from Adelaide who dares to compare a broken heart to a stubbed toe. It's a synth-pop, post-punk odyssey that's a reminder not to take everything too seriously - even if the world is upside down.
