The Sprawl
Bio history
The Sprawl was formed in early 2006 by a Red Hot Chilli Peppers' loving bassist (Griffiths) and a Post-Punk poster child guitarist (Jones) when they discovered that they both loved Jane's Addiction and Beck. After a period of jamming they were joined by a drummer with much more credibility and style (Thomson) and so the band was created. Often compared to artists as diverse as Bright Eyes, Joy Division and Primus; The Sprawl exist to create noisy, melancholic rock with a groove.
We have a sonically unorthodox sound that stems from a universal background, having all band members being born into the Internet generation has secured that fact. To put it simply, we use what ever genre specific sounds are required to deliver our message. Usually this involves some Lou reed-esque cynicism, twinkly midwest emo guitar licks, ambience of all colours provided by synthesisers and shoe gaze based rhythm guitar as well as the vulnerability of a lyricist who is both honest in his lyrics and a closet emo.
