THERE is great pleasure to be found in "discovering" a band. You may have never heard a note by them before, and then BAM! One song, one performance, one album can change everything. The Tokyo Room is a new Tassie post-90s garage rock act with a minty fresh sound. Take The Switch with its heartfelt lyrics, stop-start style, riotous riffs, tight rhythm, even a soul clap or two. This is the sound of three dudes having one hell of a great time. Riot sounds a bit like Arctic Monkeys but smarter, Animals is dreamy guitar pop like a drive down a Californian highway and Sunstroke turns the volume down but the intensity up. My Neon Carousel is packed with strong, well-executed material. It's also nicely produced, something that often lets independent bands down. 3 1/2 stars JARRAD BEVAN May 07, 201
